Google algorithm will crawl all web data and web pages regularly and no idea when it will announce the update is coming. Like this Google has released one update known as Penguin in April 2012. It will detect the web sites which have errors with spam links (back links) and it will boost the website search rankings which have high quality back links.
You can remove bad links easily through Google Disavow tool when you heard any update is coming from Penguin otherwise your site may goes under spam after the update of Google Penguin. Check below all dates of Google Penguin Updates (all versions of penguin updates)
